Reading Update

While I was gone, I continued to read. Here are some of my favorites from the past couple of months:

MG:

  • Peter Abrahams’s Down the Rabbit Hole – I don’t think I could say enough good things about this mystery. I loved it. So did Stephen King.
  • Joseph Delaney’s Revenge of the Witch (The Last Apprentice 1) – A-Read read the first 2 in the series, and has the 3rd on deck. A little dark and spooky.

YA:

  • Phoebe Kitanidis’s Glimmer – A very unusual story in a very unusual setting.
  • Tara Kelly’s Amplified – I just love her writing and her protagonists and her male leads.
  • Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone – Beautiful writing, unusual story, kick-a heroine.
  • Suzanne Lilly’s Shades of the Future – Sweet and heart-tugging.

Adult:

  • Kendall Grey’s Inhale – This one tugs on other parts than your heart, if you know what I mean. *wink wink*
  • Kate Johnson’s I, Spy? – A fun spy romp. Dump your disbelief prior to page 1.

What have you read recently that you MUST rave about?

  1. thanks for this. i wish the mg mystery was ya or adult, but i might give it a try anyway. i’ve been hungry for a myster. i might give the i,spy a chance too! 🙂 christy

  2. Aww, thanks for the mention. As you know, the best MG I’ve read lately is WHEN YOU REACH ME, by Rebecca Stead.

  3. Michele

My current read is Love Bomb, contemporary fiction about a woman dressed as a bride who comes in and holds the wedding party hostage. She’s tied to someone in the wedding.
Before this I read Seating Arrangements about an upper class wedding where guests have names like Oatsy and behave terribly. Just plain rude and inconsiderate. There was a whale carcas blown up. No bride rockin an uzi like in Love Bomb.
Weddings gone bad are my new subject I guess. Families in crisis was getting old.

  4. I’m so glad you’re back! Congrats on the new job!

I just read Hemingway’s Girl by Erika Robuck–amazing historical fiction with a feisty leading lady!

  5. Catherine Johnson

They sound great, Vicki. Unending Devotion by Jody Hedlund. Call of the Cadron by Freeda Baker Nichols and Raven Boys Maggie Stiefvater. All awesome!

  6. I do like the sounds of these. Thanks!

  7. I’m reading the MG book, The Kneebone Boy, and am really enjoying it!

  8. I LOVED Daughter of Smoke and Bone. My daughter just went to Prague and I keep telling her she HAS to read it. I’m actually tackling Les Miserables right now. Wanted to read it before the movie comes out. I’m into the way books written in that era can just dart off on a tangent – so many stories within the story. Too bad that’s not in vogue anymore.
