Cover Reveal: Dawn of the Vie

Hey Friends,

Long time, no see. Well, I’m back and I’m happy to take part in the cover reveal blog tour for my friend, author Laura Diamond. I critiqued a much earlier version of this book and even roped in my  nephew to beta read this for Laura.

Dawn of the Vie
by Laura Diamond
(Immortal Aliens, #1)
Published by: Curiosity Quills Press
Publication date: October 3rd 2016
Genres: Dystopian, Science Fiction, Young Adult
Synopsis:

Since their Arrival less than 30 years ago, immortal Vie rule the planet like the super-predators they are. Enslaved humans are their servants…their entertainment…and their food. Anemies—humans with various types of anemia—are simply exterminated. Their nutritionally deficient blood is useless to the Vie.

Or so it’s thought…

_________

Alex, an Elite Vie, is a bit of a Renaissance Alien. Part scientist, part Raid Specialist, part drug addict, he knows Anemie blood is valuable. Rather than blindly carrying out his boss’s kill order, he convinces some colleagues to spare a few Anemies, not only for study, but also to reserve a secret stock.

The more Anemie blood Alex drinks, the more he slips into delusion, and the more his double life threatens to crumble. But quitting Anemie blood is not an option. Every Anemie has their own personal flavor. Each gives a unique high.

When Alex takes a hit of Justin’s blood, his hallucinations bleed into reality…

_________

Anemie Justin knows his little sister, Sammie, and he are living past their expiration dates. It becomes a guarantee when they’re bitten by a Vie named Alex during a raid. (The bite is fatal, thanks to a toxin carried in Vie saliva.) Alex adds insult to injury by promising Justin a second chance—an antidote in exchange for agreeing to be a lab rat.

And a mule…of his own blood.

When Justin says no, Alex takes off with Sammie.

All Justin has to do is find them, beat Alex, and cure himself and Sammie. All he has is a stake and serious lack of self-preservation.

No problem.

_________

Alex wants Justin’s blood.

Justin wants his sister back.

GAME ON.

The Zodiac Collector Launch!

Gosh, what a whirlwind few months for my author friends! I’m so pleased to announce the launch of Laura Diamond’s new book, one I beta-read a while back: The Zodiac Collector. The Zodiac Collector is being published by Spencer Hill Press tomorrow, September 23rd.

About The Zodiac Collector:

For almost-16 year-old Anne Devans, the annual Renaissance Faire means three things—her dad spending weeks in the smithy, her bipolar mom doing some manic costume making, and another ruined birthday for her and her twin sister, Mary. Zodiac-collector

This year, Anne wants things to be different, and she’s going to do things her way.

On the eve of the Faire, Anne (along with a reluctant Mary) conjures up a spell that will make their 16th birthday party a whirlwind event. Little do they know that it’s a literal request.

After the mini tornado in their room subsides, the girls realize they’ve invoked the power of the Gemini Twins, Castor and Pollux. That’s the good news. The bad news is they also caught the attention of a sorceress named Zeena who has been collecting children born under each Zodiac Sign to enhance her power. Once she captures Anne and Mary, Gemini twins, the entire Zodiac—and the world—will be hers.

Anne leads the fight against Zeena, but her one-sided decisions could throw them into a world so far from home, even the Renaissance Faire would seem like a brilliant vacation. Between managing their new Zodiac powers, dodging their manic mother and trying to stop Zeena, they’ll get a 16th birthday they’ll never forget.

ENDURE Cover Reveal

Today I am so thrilled to be part of the cover reveal for a book I read lo so long ago, in one of its earlier iterations. I’m happy for Laura. She has worked hard and has found a publishing path that works for her. And this cover is amazing!

So, without any further ado, ENDURE (coming July 12, 2013): Endure_ByLauraDiamond-453x680

Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Justin’s anemic blood is a blessing. Or a curse. It all depends on who you ask.

To most of the immortal Vie, his blood is a scourge: untouchable and useless. To some Vie, his blood is a drug. To Justin, it’s something that gets him in a lot of trouble. Being poisoned by a Vie is just one example. His sister getting kidnapped is another. Whether it’s being coerced by a deluded cult leader, or negotiating with Alex—a Vie scientist addicted to Anemie blood—Justin struggles to keep every mutated drop of blood he’s got.

His fight for survival gets more complicated when he meets Alex’s slave, Cara. Despite coming from different worlds, they’re both prisoners, at risk of being drained by a hungry Vie any moment. When she risks her own neck to help Justin find his sister, he’s left with a terrifying choice.

Saving what’s left of humanity.
Saving his sister. Saving the girl he loves.
Or sticking a stake in Alex’s chest.
Justin can’t decide which option will get him killed first.

Tsavo Pride Release Blitz

Author Laura Diamond had such a blast sharing her PRIDE series with you that she’s decided to self-publish a spin-off short story. Set in 1890’s Kenya and based on the man-eating lions of Tsavo, this young adult paranormal short has a decidedly horroresque bent to it.

Tsavo Pride4Rogue shapeshifters, Santamo and Legeny, believe they are kings blessed with the power to shift into lions. Using that strength, they brutally defend their land from the British building the Ugandan Railroad that threatens their way of life. On a particularly ruthless raid, Santamo meets his match—Naserian. He spares the girl’s life, a move that fractures his relationship with Legeny and blurs his visions of cleansing his territory of invaders.

While the pile of bones in Santamo and Legeny’s cave grows, so does Santamo’s attraction to Naserian. When she challenges him to give up his murderous ways, will Santamo stay on the path of death he believes is his duty, or will he choose Naserian, and love?

TSAVO PRIDE is NOW AVAILABLE via Amazon for $0.99! Amazon Prime members can borrow it for free. 😉

Read-Through Thursday: Shifting Pride

This is a series wherein I discuss whatever book I’m reading or have just finished. Feel free to post in the comments what you’re reading or your own thoughts about the books I discuss.

I haven’t done one of these in a while (not since last January, in fact), because last year I read a lot of middle grade and so participated in MMGM instead. So, welcome back!

Shifting Pride by Laura Diamond shifting pride cvr

From Goodreads: Sixteen-year-old Nickie Leone has proof that her missing (presumed dead) father is still alive. Receiving his watch in the mail is the first in a line of clues bringing her closer to discovering his whereabouts. But clues aren’t the only new thing in Nickie’s life. There’s the Memorial Banquet her mother insists she help prepare for, there’s the new kid/hottie, Xavian, and…well, the growth of whiskers and a tail!

Filled with secrets and a new love of tuna fish, Nickie must partner up with Xavian (don’t you know he’s a shapeshifter too?) to rescue her dad before she loses him forever. Oh, and she needs to figure out how to be a cat, too.

From Vicki: Full disclosure: Laura is one of my writing and critiquing buddies, but I did not read any part of this book before it was published.

This was my first YA about shifters and it was fun. Action-packed. Full of tension and emotion. Lots of believable conflict between the different characters. A bad guy you really want Nickie to defeat, and a goal you really want her to achieve.

And thank you, Laura, for NOT including a triangle.

What’s your favorite shifter novel? Does it have a love triangle?

NEW PRIDE Release Day Blitz!

I’m so pleased to help my friend Laura Diamond celebrate release day. So, without further ado, in her own words:

It’s here! My prequel novelette, NEW PRIDE, releases today. I’m SO stoked for it to run wild in the world.

NEW PRIDE was born from my upcoming novel, SHIFTING PRIDE (coming December 7, 2012!). In SHIFTING PRIDE, the main character, Nickie, searches for her missing father, Richard…and NEW PRIDE is all about Richard’s journey to independence and new love.

NEW PRIDE Blurb:

New town, new love, new terror.

A shape-shifter without a pride, Richard Leone strikes a tenuous friendship with power hungry, Derek, from an unstable, rogue group. On a hunt in the forest, they encounter a gorgeous brunette, Molly, partying with friends around a campfire. Derek tells the rogue pride and they bristle at humans trespassing on their territory. Richard risks life and tail to protect his secret and the humans—especially Molly—while simultaneously trying to win her heart. When Molly is kidnapped, he faces taking on the rogue pride alone, but quickly finds he has to put his trust in Derek, not only to rescue his new love, but to ensure the rogue pride doesn’t wreak havoc on his new town.

Friends

Today you can read yet another interview of me, by my good friend, Tanya. This post of hers absolutely blew my mind. You’ll have to go see it to understand. Tanya is an amazing person, an amazing mom and an amazing writer (and yes, Tanya, I have those conversations with you in my mind, too).

This is now my 4th interview, all from writers I “met” during the Blog Crusade hosted by Rachael Harrie. I took a chance and put myself out there and it has paid dividends.

As I mentioned last week, I have gained writing-bloggie friends and critique partners and beta readers. This is as good a time as any to send virtual shout outs to the people who have recently critiqued all or part of Sophie (in the order in which they read it):

Suzanne Lilly
Eric Etkin
Gail Aldous
Steve Sheinkin
Tanya Reimer from Life’s Like That
Christy from erica and christy
Catherine Johnson
Laura Diamond of Diamond, Yup Like the Stone

These are all talented writers, following a similar path to my own. We are all on the journey to publication (except for Steve who has been living the dream for some time now) and we are very lucky to have found some support and friendship. There are others who have helped me in some way (you know who you are). I’ll honor them another time.

Now for an update. Sophie is steeping, having recently gathered critiques. I am reading, critiquing, and helping another friend with a new project.

Who are you happy to share a journey with (whatever that journey may be)?
